Turned on my son’s computer after two weeks of vacation and saw this. What do I do?

F2 for setup options. Is it an old PC? It’s possible the on-board backup battery for the BIOS settings is not keeping charge.
The other option is you’ve got a virus and it’s hosed.

Let’s go with a dead battery. Press f2 and enter time etc manually?

Correct - after that go back to the main BIOS menu and restart. The PC should then boot from the O/S image on the local hard drive.

Man, that’s some serious Greek to me.
go back to the main BIOS menu and restart
I have no idea what that means.

Ah - after you press F2 you will get the chance to set the time - more than likely you will get a list of options. Select the one for time setting. Once done you will be able to get back to the setup menu - look for either a numbered option or a “press [a specific] key to return to the main menu” message somewhere on the screen.
For reference here’s a good description of what BIOS means: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BIOS
Here’s a decent set of instructions from HP.com: https://support.hp.com/lt-en/document/c00034791
Also - don’t want to offend but have you asked your Son? If he’s old enough and likes to geek out he probably knows how to fix it ;^>

I called my Windows guru, who fortunately is on the west coast and was still awake. We did f2, set clock, clicked Exit, and it restarted. Looks like I need to replace the battery, which should be a cinch.
The boys are 13, but they are not very tech savvy. They know how to play the games, but that’s about it. I’m a Mac guy myself, and often find Windows inscrutable.
Thanks again.

Desktop. I’ll dig into it on Monday. These computers are rarely turned off.
